Charles E. (Chappy) Tilger age 93 of Canonsburg died Saturday July 3, 2010 in his home following a brief illness. He was born February 17, 1917 in Monongahela, a son of Nicholas and Josephine Diggaditch Tilger. Mr. Tilger lived most of his life in the Canonsburg area where he operated as a self employed mechanic. Prior to the opening of his garage Mr. Tilger had been employed at the former Sweihart and Sherwood Dairies for many years. He enjoyed spending time with his great grandchildren, singing Country Western music and NASCAR.
On December 7, 1945 he married Ruth E, Raviart who died March 14, 2009. Surviving are a daughter Lois E. Downs of Canonsburg, four grandchildren, Shawn Sutton, Erin Timko, Alan Repman and Chad Downs, five sisters Margaret Gabster of Midland, Ann Murgel of Chartiers Twp., Edna Moss of Canonsburg, Dorothy (Merle) Watters of Hickory and Eleanor Tilger of Chartiers Twp., six greatgrandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Deceased are three sisters, Helen Delbo, Ethel Nagy and Pauline Hanq, two brothers Michael and James Tilger and a brother and sister John and Elizabeth Tilger who both died in infancy.
Friends are welcome from 2-8pm Tuesday July 6, 2010 in Salandra Funeral Service, Inc. Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg where sevices will be held at 10 am Wednesday July 7, 2010 with Reverend Craig Kephart officiating. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens McMurray.
