Charles F. McKnight, 80, of Canonsburg passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 22, 2014 in his home.
He was born on May 15, 1934 in Brownsville, a son of the late William F. and Sylvia G. Sethman McKnight.
He was a proud Veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1957-1963. He had been a resident of Canonsburg since 1969. Charles retired from McGraw Edison after 39 devoted years. He was a member of the American Legion in West Brownsville, the VFW Post 191 in Canonsburg, and the White Eagles in Canonsburg.
Charles enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, playing cards, and getting away to his camp in the mountains. He loved to make his friends and family laugh, fondly known by many as a practical joker.
On August 29, 1958 he married Ileen M. Dutton McKnight, who passed away on November 24, 2000.
Surviving are his three children, Charles F. McKnight, Jr. of Cuddy, Kimberley K. (Anthony) McKnight Gibson of Washington, and Marcey L. McKnight of Washington; a sister, Joann McKnight of Cleveland, OH; four grandchildren, C.J., Alishia, Sean, and Shannon McKnight; three great grandchildren, Nathan, Mackenzie, and Summer; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Danny Joe, Gene, Bud, and William "Woody" McKnight.
Friends are welcome from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Saturday, December 27, 2014 and Sunday, December 28, 2014 in Salandra Funeral Service, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra Owner/Supervisor, Lin Webb Funeral Director, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg 724-745-8120 where a funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 29, 2014 with Pastor Steve Parkhill officiating. Interment, with full military honors accorded by the VFW Post 191 Honor Guard, will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
