Charles D. Herdman, Sr.

Charles D. Herdman, Sr., 64, of McDonald passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 in St. Clair Hospital, Pittsburgh.

He was born in Johnstown on April 6, 1951, a son of the late Charles W. and Belva J. Engel Herdman.

Mr. Herdman was a 1969 graduate of Canon-McMillan High School, a graduate of the Community College of Allegheny County, and the Pennsylvania Police Academy in Greensburg.  A proud veteran, Charlie served his country with the United States Marine Corps.  He continued to serve his community for 39 years with the Cecil Twp. Police Department, retiring as a Sergeant in 2012.  His service and community involvement continued as he served as a longtime D.A.R.E. Officer, the Director of Security for 30 years with Black Box Corp., 22 year Past President of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 22, the Washington Lodge 164 F & AM, the A.A.S.R. Valley of Pittsburgh 32nd Degree, Syria Shrine of Pittsburgh, PIN Club of Pittsburgh, the Blue Knights Chapter 16, and the Marine Corps League 1138.

The Herdman family is saddened by the loss of Charlie’s daily presence and feel truly blessed for the time that they had with him.  His spirit will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.

Surviving are his two beloved sons, Charles D. (Kristi Masenheimer) Herdman, Jr. of Warren, Ohio and Garrett E. (Emily) Herdman of Washington; his precious grandson, Gino F. Herdman of Warren, Ohio; three step daughters, Elizabeth, McCall, and Brooke Andy, all of Cecil; a brother, Jerry K. (Karen Eden Herdman) Herdman of Aurora, Colorado; a sister-in-law, Colleen D. Herdman of McMurray; and three nephews, Brian (Jennifer) Herdman of Princeton, New Jersey, Kurt (Jeanine) Herdman of Pittsburgh, and Cody Jon Herdman of Aurora, Colorado.  Also surviving is his significant other, Dawn M. Stevenson, with whom he made his home.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, is a brother, David G. Herdman.

Friends are welcome from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM on Saturday, May 30, 2015 and Sunday, May 31, 2015 in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra Owner/Supervisor, Lin Webb Funeral Direcotr, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg 724-745-8120 where a funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 1, 2015.  Interment, with military honors, will follow in Oak Spring Cemetery, Canonsburg.

The Fraternal Order of Police service will begin at 7:00 PM on Saturday, the F & AM Service will begin at 7:30 PM Saturday, and the Marine Corps League Service will begin at 7:00 PM Sunday.
