Catherine Gasper age 73 of Muse died Tuesday April 7, 2010 in Canonsburg General Hospital. She was born December 14, 1936 in Muse a daughter of the late George and Helen Kolar Stajduhar.
Mrs. Gasper lived her entire life in Muse and was a member of Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers. She was a homemaker and member of the Croatian Fraternal Union Lodge 567 of Canonsburg, serving as Treasurer and Junior Nest Manager for 30 years, until the time of her death, the ladies Auxiliary of the Muse Volunteer Fire Department where she served as president for 10 years and the G.O. L. club of Muse.
Mrs. Gasper was a delegate to two CFU Quadrennial Conventions in Toronto Ontario and Atlanta Georgia. She was voted Muse Fire Queen in her youth and had been honored as Mother of the Year by the Ladies Auxiliary of the Muse Volunteer Fire Department.
An Avid Bruce Springsteen fan she attended many concerts
On February 23, 1957 she married Elmer F. (Elmo) Gasper who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Robert (Clara) Gasper of Pitcairn and John Gasper of Muse, a daughter, Mary (Kaye) Gasper of Canonsburg, a sister, Ann Barnes of McMurray, two grandchildren, Bobby and Katie Gasper, a great grandson Dexter Gasper, a sister-in-law, Annie Stajduhar and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are a granddaughter Cara Gasper, a sister Sophie Malacky and two brothers Matt and John Stajduhar.
Friends are welcome from 2-4 and 6-8pm Thursday and Friday in Salandra Funeral Service, Inc. Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg, 724-745-8120 where a blessing service will be held at 9:30 am Saturday April 10, 2010. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am in Holy Rosary Church, Muse, with Father George DeVille, pastor, as celebrant. Interment will follow in Oak Spring Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Holy Rosary Church, CFU Scholarship Fund 100 Delaney Drive, Pittsburgh, 15235 or the Western PA Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation 100 West Station Square, Suite 1950 Pittsburgh 15219.
The Christian Mothers will recite the rosary at 3:00 PM in the home on Thursday.
