Byron C. Steele age 87 of Claysville formerly of McMurray passed away Saturday morning February 23, 2013 at home with his family by his side. He was born March 26, 1925 in Wana, West Virginia a son of the late Renner Rex and Cora Gladys Bean Steele.
Mr. Steele had served with the United States Navy as a petty officer in World War II and had been employed as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic. A member of Operating Engineers, Mr. Steele received a 60 year member pin days before his passing. He had been a member of Center Presbyterian Church in McMurray for over 60 years where he had served as a trustee and deacon. On June 26, 1948 he married Dorothy June Snider who passed away July 3, 2007. Surviving are two sons; Byron Rex (Beverly) Steele of North Strabane Township and Richard Lee (Genna) Steele with whom he made his home, a daughter Kathleen Sue (Paul) Golden of St. Mary's, Georgia, seven grandchildren; Brian (Jennifer) Golden , Cindra (Michael) Holland, Laura (Juston) Murusa, Daniel Steele, Jason (Sophie) Steele, Matthew (Noelle) Steele and Nicholas Steele, three great grandchildren; Hanna Holland, Mica Murusa and Logan Steele.
Friends are welcome from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM Friday, March 1, 2013 and from noon until 1 PM, the time of service on Saturday March 2, 2013 in Salandra Funeral Service, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg 724-745-8120. Following the 1 PM service with Reverend Jerome Creach officiating, interment with full military rites will be accorded by the VFW Post 191 and the American Legion Post 902 in Woodruff Memorial Park, North Strabane Twp. The family suggests memorial contribution be made to Amedisys Hospice.
