Bertram Zanaglio, 90, of Midland in Chartiers Township, died Saturday May 12, 2018 in Paramount Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, McMurray.
He was born January 2, 1928 in Chartiers to Faustino Sr. and Gustine Zamboni Zanaglio.
He served a Merchant Marine and a member of the U.S. Navy from July 1944 thru 1956, serving in World War II and the Korean conflict. He remained a member of the Navy active Reserves thru 1970. He was awarded the Mediterranean and Middle East War Zone Bars, Combat Bar with stars and the World War II Victory Medal.
He worked at Universal Cyclops Steel mill and retired in July 1990 after 40 years, the whole time serving as a member of United Steelworkers Union 178 Cyclops in Bridgeville, PA.
He is a lifetime member of American Legion Post 902 in Houston PA as well as a lifetime member of Chartiers Volunteer Fire Dept.
Throughout his lifetime he was also served as Pass Govern of Moose Lodge 127 Canonsburg, Chartiers Township Supervisor, President of Senior Groups of Chartiers Township, and Vice President of MAROA Board of Directors in St. Petersburg, FL.
On April 17, 1954 he married the love of his life Virginia Rosa Storez and two celebrated 53 years of marriage before her death December 5, 2007.
In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by brothers Andrew, Angelo, James and Robert Zanaglio and sister Mary Pozonsky.
Surviving are son Bertram F. (Cindy) Zanaglio of DeBary, FL and daughter Norma (Stush) Valentino of Washington, brother Faustino (Gwen) Zanaglio of Muse, in addition to several wonderful nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, even great-great-grandchildren.
Friends are welcome from 2~4 and 6~8 p.m. on Thursday, May 17, 2018 in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, LFD, owner/supervisor and Darla A. Tripoli, LFD, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120 where services will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 18, 2018. Interment will follow with full military rites accorded by VFW Post 191 of Canonsburg Honor Guard and the United States Navy Honor Guard in Forest Lawn Gardens in McMurray.
