Audre Riggs (Riggs) Lewis

Audre Riggs Lewis age 88 of Washington, formerly of Canonsburg passed away peacefully, Friday May 22, 2015 in Canonsburg General Hospital with her loving family by her side.

She was born July 24, 1926 in Uniontown one of six children of the late George Weldon and Pearl Stollar Riggs.

Mrs. Lewis attended Penn State University where she met her husband, Fred Lewis. They were married in 1946 in Oakland, Maryland and made their home in Canonsburg, where she had been member of and active volunteer at the Canonsburg United Presbyterian Church. She was an accomplished artist, calligrapher, seamstress and knitter who made heirloom Christmas Stockings for all of her grandchildren. She also volunteered at the Canonsburg General Hospital and the Literacy Council and moved to Strabane Trails in Washington in 2004. Mrs. Lewis inspired the love and loyalty of her family and friends and will be deeply missed.

Surviving are her six children; Lenley (Jay Coughlin), John (Catherine Haluszczak), Lisa, George (Dayl Douglas), Alexandra (John Opal) and Susanne (Gary Watt), Fourteen grandchildren; William Scheff, Lida Lewis, Catherine Coughlin (Jeff McConnell), Nick Lewis (Mary Beth Fiser), Stephen Coughlin, Jack Opal, Magritte Opal, Alex Lewis, Luke Watt, Emma Lewis, Eliana Watt, Mattie Lewis, Katie Lewis and Aubre Lewis, several nieces and nephews. She was the last of her immediate family.

Deceased, in addition to her parents and siblings, is her husband Fred Lewis, who passed away in 1977.

At Mrs. Lewis’s request there will be no public visitation and services will be private for the family. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the charity of the donor’s choice.
