Alice L. Bernardi

Alice L. Bernardi age 80 of Cecil Twp. died Thursday February 16, 2012 in Canonsburg General Hospital following an extended illness. She was born October 6, 1931 in Washington a daughter of the late William and Myrtle Edith Baker Lloyd. Mrs. Bernardi attended Hickory High School and lived in the Muse and Cecil Twp. areas since 1950. She was a member of Holy Rosary Church in Muse, the Muse Independent Club and Ladies Auxiliary, where she worked for many years as a "Fish Lady" on Fridays. She was a member of the Christian Mothers of Holy Rosary, who will recite the rosary at 2p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Mrs. Bernardi had worked at the former Continental Can Company in Canonsburg and prior to her retirement she had been employed by the Harry M. Stevens food services at the Meadows Racetrack. She enjoyed baking and was devoted to spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
On December 10, 1949 she married Mario G. Bernardi who died April 21, 2001. Surviving are three daughters; Mona (David) Matalik of Houston, Nancy L. (William) Phillips of Canonsburg and Debra (Jeffrey) Zofchak of Hickory, a son; David Mario (Holly) Bernardi of Cecil Twp., nine grandchildren: Brian and Michael Matalik, Karie VanWie, Chad Phillips, Jessica, Megan and Leah Zofchak, Emanuel and Nathaniel Bernardi, six great grandchildren; Cooper and Stella Matalik, Olivia and Luke VanWie, Isaiah Zofchak and Jorden Karan, an aunt Florence Davis, devoted brothers and sisters in law and many nieces and nephews. She was the last of her immediate family. Deceased are a brother William Lloyd and a sister Virginia Zukas.
Friends are welcome from 4-8 pm Saturday and from 2-4 and 6-8pm Sunday in Salandra Funeral Service, Inc. Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120, where a blessing service will be held at 9:15 am Monday February 20, 2012 followed at 10 by a Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Rosary Church, Muse with reverend George DeVille, pastor as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested for Alzheimers research.
