Alfred L. Kochanski, 83, of Canonsburg passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 in the Washington Hospital.
He was born on May 25, 1932 in Canonsburg, a son of the late John and Stella Gryszkiewicz Kochanski.
Alfred served his country with the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the VFW Post 191 in Canonsburg and the American Legion Post 902 in Houston.
A lifelong resident of Canonsburg, he was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Canonsburg. He was also a member of the Canonsburg Italian American Association. Alfred retired from the Canonsburg Post Office after many devoted years. He was an avid fisherman who loved watching sports and old westerns. He also enjoyed gardening. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
On August 27, 1955 he married his beloved wife of 60 years, Violet Marcantonio Kochanski, who survives.
Also surviving are two loving daughters, Monica L. (the late William) Fairbanks of Henderson, Nevada and Anita A. Phillips of Washington; a brother, Theodore (Betty) Kochanski of Willingboro, New Jersey; a sister, Jennie Kochanski of Canonsburg; two grandsons, Jeremy P. (Angela) Phillips of Taylorstown and Joel P. (Jennifer) Phillips of West Alexander; six great grandchildren, Jensen, Niko, and Jameson Phillips and Teralyn, Alexa, and Carter McCrady; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by six brothers, John, Stanley, Tony, Raymond, Edwin, and Samuel Kochanski; and two sisters, Mildred McGinnis and Martha Poloski.
Friends are welcome from 2-4 and 5-8 PM on Sunday, February 21, 2016 in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor, Lin Webb funeral director, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg 724-745-8120 where departing prayers will begin at 9:30 AM on Monday, February 22, 2016. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 10:00 AM in St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, 317 West Pike Street, Canonsburg. Interment, with full military rites accorded by the VFW Post 191 Honor Guard, will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Twp. Everyone is asked to please meet at the cemetery.
