Alex Anthony Ladzinski age 94, known to his family and friends as "Cooper", of Canonsburg passed away peacefully, Sunday May 11, 2014 in Golden Living Center of South Hills with his loving family by his side.
He was born on March 3, 1920, in Canonsburg, the son of the late Jacob and Rose Krusienski Ladzinski. Mr. Ladzinski was a retired electrician from Pennsylvania Transformer and McGraw "Edison in Canonsburg having been employed there for 35 years. He was a very proud veteran of World War II serving as a 5th grade medical technician in the Untied States Army's 28th Division serving in North Africa and Italy and also served in the 56th Evacuation Hospital. He received the American Good Conduct Medal, the Defense Medal, the Victory Medal, the European and African Medals along with the Middle Eastern Service Medal with two bronze stars.
Mr. Ladzinski was a member of St. Patrick Church, VFW Post 191 of Canonsburg, American Legion Post 902 of Houston, and was a life member of the Disable American Veterans. He passed on to his Children a love for all types of Music especially classical music. There was always music in the house; on the radio or downstairs when his son's band practiced. They don't ever remember saying the music was to loud. He loved small children and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Ladzinski was an active senior having had a large vegetable garden, cutting his own lawn, driving and shopping until he was ninety. During his wife's illness, he was especially dedicated to her care which allowed her to pass away quietly in their home. Of all his accomplishments, this is the one that made his children most proud.
On June 26, 1948 in St. Michael's Church in Canonsburg, he married Ann Jereb, who passed away on June 10, 2006.
Surviving are five children, Mary Ann (Ron) Stankas of Claysville, Alex M. (Donna) Ladzinski of McMurray, John Ladzinski of North Strabane, Nancy (Jim) Bell of North Strabane, and Darlene (Ken) Watson of Granby, Connecticut, grandchildren, Tony Stankas of Tennessee, Andrea (Brian) Carnahan of North Strabane, Alex and Andy Ladzinski of McMurray, Mia Ladzinski of North Strabane, Matthew and Brian Bell of Pittsburgh, Nicholas and Mandy Watson of Connecticut, two great-grandchildren, Chloe Rae and Collin Carnahan. Also surviving is one sister, Marie Markosky of Arizona and 24 nieces and nephews.
Deceased are four brothers, Sigmund, Andrew, Edward and John Ladzinski and three sisters, Loretta Roman, Blanche Gregory and Teresa Toth.
Friends are welcome on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 from 2:00 to 4:00PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Salandra Funeral Service, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120, where departing prayers will be held at 12:30 PM Thursday, May 15, 2014. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:00 PM in St. Patrick Church. Interment will follow at 2:30 PM in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies; Cecil Twp. Full Military honors will be accorded by the VFW Post 191 Honor Guard of Canonsburg. The Christian Mothers and Women Guild will recite the rosary Wednesday at the funeral at 3:00 PM.
