Albert "Abby" Aldino Abbondanza

Albert “Abby” Aldino Abbondanza, 92, of Canonsburg passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2016 in his home.

He was born on March 30, 1924 in Prossedi, Italy, a son of the late Leone and Nicolina Napoleon Abbondanza.

Mr. Abbondanza was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Muse.  He was also a member of the Independent Club of Muse.  He retired as a steel worker from Universal Cyclops in 1986 and had been a member of the United Steelworkers Union.  Abby was an avid bowler, bowling on several local leagues.  He also enjoyed playing dartball with the Canonsburg Senior Center.  A sports fan, he watched nearly every Pirates and Steelers game.

On February 10, 1945 he married his beloved wife, Helen I. Klescik Abbondanza, who passed away on January 25, 2008.

Surviving are three loving children, Albert J. (Marian) Abbondanza of Goldsboro, North Carolina, Glenn J. (Lynda) Abbondanza of Wichita, Kansas, and Faye E. Abbondanza of Canonsburg; seven grandchildren, Tom Bechtold, John (Heather) Bechtold, Jeffery (Tanya) Abbondanza, Brittany Lynn (Duane) Abbondanza, Nicholas Abbondanza, Justin McCullough, and Brandon Livitski; thirteen great-grandchildren; three nieces, Leslie (Tim) Bucheli, Barbara (Tom) Smutney, and Lou Ann (Alex) Smallman; two nephews, David (Debbie) Abbondanza and Dennis Abbondanza; and brother-in-law, Bob (Fern) Klescik of Canonsburg.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by two daughters, Karen M. Livitski and Jean M. Bechtold Dolence; a brother, Herk A. (the late Dolores) Abbondanza; and two sisters, Alena Abbondanza and Agnes (the late Daniel) Alterio.

Friends are welcome from 2:00-8:00 PM on Thursday, August 18, 2016 in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor, Lin Webb funeral director, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg 724-745-8120 where departing prayers will begin at 9:20 AM on Friday, August 19, 2016.  A Mass of Christian burial will immediately follow at 10:00 AM in Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 246 Muse Bishop Road, Muse with Rev. George DeVille as celebrant.  Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Allegheny Health Network Hospice, 4818 Liberty Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15224.
