Alan M. Kern

Alan M. Kern, 58, of Daphne, Alabama, formerly of Strabane, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 26, 2016 in Daphne.

He was born on March 16, 1958 in Canonsburg, the son of the late Adolph M. and Sophie J. Sobolewski Kern.

Alan was a graduate of Canon-McMillan High School and West Virginia University, where he earned a degree in business.  He was a member of SNPJ Lodge 138 in Strabane.  He relocated to Daphne, Alabama in 2005.

He worked for U. S. Airways for 20 years.  Alan most recently worked for EADS/Airbus.  He dedicated his career to aircrafts of all kinds.

Alan loved bowling and was a collector of firearms, coins, and baseball cards.  He especially enjoyed spending time outdoors and taking walks in the park with his dog, Molly.

Surviving are his loving son, Aaron M. (Michelle) Kern of Alexandria, Virginia; two nieces, Toni (David Loch) DeMarco-Loch of Houston and Amie (David) Yackobovich of Las Vegas, Nevada; great nephew, Landon J. Loch; uncle, Frank Kern of Strabane; and partner, Cheryl A. Brettel of Daphne, Alabama.  Also surviving are numerous cousins and friends.

Alan also leaves behind his beloved dog, Molly.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Deborah DeMarco.

Friends are welcome from 4-8 PM on Thursday, March 31, 2016 in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor, Lin Webb funeral director, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg 724-745-8120 where departing prayers will begin at 9:30 AM on Friday, April 1, 2016.  A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 10:00 AM in St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, 317 West Pike Street, Canonsburg.  Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Canonsburg.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Alan’s name to the Washington Area Humane Society, 1527 Route 136, Eighty Four, PA 15330 or at www.washingtonpashelter.org.
