Adolph M. Kern Jr. age 88 of Strabane died Friday, April 29, 2011 in Manor Care. He was born July 24, 1922 in Strabane a son of Adolph and Justine Podboy Kern.
Mr. Kern lived his entire life in Strabane and was a member of St. Patrick Church. He graduated from Trinity High School and served with the United States Army during World War II. Prior to his retirement he was employed as a security guard at the former Universal Cyclops, in Bridgeville. Mr. Kern enjoyed gardening and was an avid Steeler fan. He was a member of KSKJ St. Jerome Lodge 53, and the SNPJ Lodge 136, both of Strabane, American Legion Post 902 of Houston and the VFW Post 191 of Canonsburg.
On July 1, 1950 he married Sophie Sobolewski who survives. Also surviving are his son Alan (Cheryl) Kern of Owens Cross Roads, Alabama, three grandchildren David (Amie) Yacubovich, Toni DeMarco (David Loch) and Aaron (Michele) Kern, two brothers Frank Kern of Strabane and Joseph Kern of Chatsworth California and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are his daughter Deborah J. DeMarco and her husband Fortunato (Fred) DeMarco.
Friends are welcome from 2-4 and 6-8pm Monday in Salandra Funeral Service, Inc. Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg, 724-745-8120 where a blessing service will be held at 9:30am Tuesday May 3, 2011. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 am in St. Patrick Church. Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery. Full Military Rites will be accorded by the VFW Post 191 of Canonsburg and the American Legion Post 902 of Houston combined Honor Guard
